ASB Meeting for Oct 18th 07

ASB Meeting Notes 10/18/07

- Recycling: tabled because Stephen isn’t here
- 24 hour access petition has been created and is being signed as we speak
o We are looking to get around 100 signatures
o Andrew will then present the proposal to Chet
o If administration does not respond to the petition, there is talk of doing a sit-in
o Will cost school extra money in terms of electricity, but not personnel
 Some rooms have motion-sensor lights, but not all, and we’re not sure if there are plans to get more
 There is currently no auto shutdown for computers either
o Some people are interested in dropping the signature runaround
o Freshmen don’t have extended access
 Some classes like video editing are generally taken by freshmen but require a lot of outside homework that must be done specifically on a Mac in FinalCut which most people don’t have
o Ask hours to be posted on the door
- Halloween Party
o Dan is using the Dragon’s Den until 5 pm
o Write a set-up task list and figure out how many people we need to do it in 3 hours
o In the future… if anyone ever wants to schedule an event in the Dragon’s Den, ask Lucy for a reservation
- Paintball
o It’s happening on Saturday, November 10th
o At Bay Area Paintball in Burlingame
o Still getting exact pricing
- Presidential Elections
o At the ASB All Student Meeting people were interested in electing new officers before the next official election
o Most people at this meeting are interested in this as well
o Some people would prefer to wait because of the timing, and also because Rob and Rachael are more accountable than students
 If the people who run for president aren’t reliable and not many people vote, we can move to refrain from electing officers
- Eric has a proposal…
o Funds request in the amount of $500 for an Xbox 360 and TorqueX
o Allow for small groups to create games for Xbox led by Albert Chen
o Students working on these games would be under direct supervision of Albert Chen
o Goal to make games by 2008
o ASB can be updated on a month-to-month basis on the team’s progress
o This request has been made to administration, but administration does not have the funds to support it
o This a necessary step for students so we can create proof of concepts, funnel our games online, and get Cogswell more recognized in the industry
o Can be helpful to all students – as all disciplines of Cogswell are required in order to make a game (engineering, audio, modeling, animation…)
o Revenue from the games may be an issue because ASB money is created by fees taken from all students, and if only a select few students are making revenue from projects created using software purchased using ASB funds
o Xbox will be kept either in Albert’s office or possibly in the ASB Office
o Eric will talk to Rejino or Chet about the details of Non-Profit
o There will be a vote on this proposal next week and those who feel strongly about it should attend the meeting next week
o UPDATE: Eric has informed me that they have obtained funds for this project from other sources. Therefore ASB will not need to contribute funds for this project to move forward. We can still discuss the project at the next meeting should ASB so desire. ---Rob
- At the top of the agenda for next week’s meeting will be a fund request from the Web Design Club – see Rebecca Fortelka for details.
