ASB Meeting 2/28/08 – Minutes
- Meeting was called to order By Rebecca Fortelka.
- Rebecca announced that the PJ party has officially been cancelled
- Rebecca stated the party was cancelled due to lack of interest and lack of a good time to hold it
- Barb asked what we planned to do with all the extra pancake mix, etc
- Andrew suggested we could plan to have pancakes at lunchtime some day, maybe at an ASB meeting
- Rob gave an update on Fusion Awards
- Submission forms will be available next week – the submission deadline is 3/31
- Rob is looking for more student volunteers to work on the Fusion Awards, specifically in helping Rebecca with the website, handling incoming submissions, contacting faculty about judging and presenting awards, planning decorations for the event and event setup and management and designing a logo for the awards
- Josh and Will volunteered to help
- Andrew still needs more volunteers for the ASB Office
- Rob and Rachael discussed upcoming elections
- Currently Rebecca Fortelka is the only candidate for ASB President
- Forms for all those interested in running for President or Vice President are NOW due by 3/17
- There will be a debate at the ASB meeting on 3/20
- Elections will be held at the ASB meeting on 3/27
- Andrew talked about the unsuccessful contest to design a mascot for the school
- Andrew proposed that instead of a contest we hold a “character smash” where artists could collaborate to build a mascot character – he said that Jeff Jackson would be willing to help moderate such a process
- Barb pointed out that our mascot need not be a dragon so long as the student body supports it
- Andrew said he would try to organize a character smash event sometime soon, possibly at lunch time
- Josh had a budget question about Friday Night Live
- The budgeted $80 from the last Friday Night Live was unspent and Josh wanted authorization to use that money for the purchase of DV Tapes to record future events
- A motion to that effect was made and passed
- Josh announced that the next Friday Night Live will be on 3/28 and will have a hip hop theme – there will be over 15 artists on the bill and Tony will be selling food again
- Rebecca wanted to know if a survey of students might be used to find out how better to run ASB meetings and how to get more students to attend them
- Brody stated that he believes students that do not attend ASB meeting are not interested in them and would continue to feel that way regardless of what changes might be made
- Rachael announced that the Student Life sponsored Ski Trip would be on 3/9
- Any interested students need to return waivers to Rob ASAP
- Barb announced that there will be a library evaluation taking place on 3/4 and 3/5
- There will be a student meeting on 3/5 @ 12:30 for students to give feedback about the library to the evaluating committee
- Barb presented Andy’s proposal to do a mural of the nerdy dragon somewhere on campus and asked where it should go
- Brody thought it should go on a wall that doesn’t yet have a mural on it, rather than paint over an old one
- Andrew suggested the back wall of the Student Lounge behind the foosball table
- Several students expressed that ASB wanted the ability to approve or veto mural content
- Barb pointed out that this was contrary to what they had said when last this topic was discussed
- A motion was made to request that ASB be given approval authority over mural content
- The motion passed
- Brody reported on Steve’s behalf that PC Game Night was a big success
- Over 40 people attended
- The raffle made $166 total, $83 of which belongs to ASB
- Andrew suggested that for future raffles we could write game companies for free swag or product to raffle off
- Tony announced that the Music Producers Club will be meeting every Monday at 5:00 in room 193
- The MPD will also be hosting laptop jams every Thursday in the Dragon’s Den from 7-10
- Rachael proposed that we start a Silicon Valley chapter of the Entertainment Consumers Association
- The group promotes free speech in video games and raises public awareness about the issues of censorship that face the video game industry
- For any Cogswell Student to join the fee is $15
- The meeting was adjourned
